Frank Gonzales is a junior in Agricultural and Consumer Economics with a concentration in Finance. Fascinated by the flexibility of his specialization, Gonzales says his knowledge in Agribusiness opens up a variety of career paths.
Being surrounded by many talented and bright students at the University of Illinois takes getting used to, Gonzales says, as he prepares to enter the competitive professional world. “Every Illini here is wanting to improve themselves professionally and academically. This type of competition makes for a learning experience for me as I try to do the same.”
Speaking of the professional world, Gonzales has interned for two summers with the clerk’s office in the Village Hall of Tinley Park, conducting research regarding real estate, demographics, and compensation. These reports were later reviewed by the village’s mayor, clerk, and board of trustees.
Gonzales is active with the Student Advancement Committee (SAC), specifically in alumni relations. “It is great to be able to meet all these alumni who have many different stories. One SAC function celebrated the anniversary of Doris Kelley Christopher Hall, and I had the opportunity to meet Doris Kelley herself, along with the Urbana-Champaign chancellor and the university’s president. This is the first event where I realized the awesome opportunities SAC could provide.”
Gonzales advises prospective students to talk to other students and alumni to learn about their U of I experiences. “Visit as many times as you can to gain more insight on how your life would be here. Many classes will help you become a standout employee in the future.”
