ACES James Scholar Honors Program

The ACES James Scholar Honors Program in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences provides a rewarding educational experience for students with exceptional academic skills. Any students meeting objective, published standards of academic achievement may apply to join the Honors Program at least four semesters before their anticipated date of graduation. ACES James Scholars are expected to perform at a superior level throughout their undergraduate careers.

The ACES James Scholar Honors Program is distinct from, yet complementary to, the College of ACES' Jonathan Baldwin Turner (JBT) Scholarship Program. Both of these programs are open to outstanding individuals majoring in agricultural, consumer, and environmental fields of study.

Pictured above is the bronze medallion awarded to seniors upon their successful completion of the ACES James Scholar Honors Program. It bears the image of Dr. Edmund J. James (1855-1925), the fourth President of the University of Illinois (1904-1920), after whom the Urbana campus' James Scholar Honors Programs are named. The inscription -- a famous quote from President James -- reads: "The hope of Democracy depends on the diffusion of knowledge and wisdom." (Photo Credit: Karlie Elliott Bowman, M.S., Class of 2009)
